Hey! Introduce yourself to us!

Hi, I’m Victoria, I’m 37 and live in Bingham with my husband and 2 boys! I run my own recruitment consultancy so spend a lot of time working from home, alone!! I have always loved dancing but hated exercise-the idea of a gym full of slim, toned beautiful people gives me the cold shivers and an overwhelming sense of vomit-inducing panic!!!! Also had/have a constant battle with my weight, my perception of myself and worried what other people think.

When did you start the classes with Nottingham Health and Fitness and what made you choose us?

I started about 2 year ago ish when we still did classes at the Bingham Rugby Club. I saw Paige advertising Clubbercise on Facebook and knew I just needed to go. It was the perfect time for me do something; I had just started working for myself and having left a very toxic workplace, was in a really good headspace. I had energy, enthusiasm for life and the time!!! But I was also looking for a social aspect too-I was used to working in a very busy noisy environment and suddenly to be working from home was a culture shock I wasn’t prepared for. Add in 2 lots of baby weight I needed to shift, the timing couldn’t have been better!!!
Whereas I have positively avoided any other classes I had seen advertised, I immediately loved the idea of Clubbercise predominantly for being in the dark but loved the music too. It seemed like something I would be ok at and therefore wouldn’t feel like a complete idiot-or if I did, no one would see me!
Since then I have become a regular at Paige’s classes, Clubbercise always being my favourite closely followed by Funky Step, Broadway Boogie and Boogie Bounce. I would never in a million years have said I would have the confidence to try all the difference classes but yet here I am, giving everything and anything a go. I absolutely put this down to Paige and the other girls in the group; not only does Paige have a great eye for the new and innovative classes that she bring to our world but also the support and encouragement we give each other to try it. There is something wonderful standing in a room full of people you know are thinking the same as you “what the hell is about to happen!?!” and then 45 mins later we are all buzzing and taking sweaty, ecstatic group selfies!

What was your goal for attending classes?

Socialising, weight loss, toning, mental health!!! In hindsight though, I didn’t realise how powerful these classes were going to be for me and actually how important they are now to my overall sense of well-being and happiness. I definitely need my “fix” every week and boy, do I know if I haven’t been. My energy levels plummet, I don’t sleep as well and my patience with the boys is non-existent! The friendships I have made, the difference in my fitness levels and genuine community I feel part of every week is just phenomenal.

What was your experience like at your first class?

I can absolutely remember my first class - it was Clubbercise on a Wednesday evening at 8.15pm down at the Bingham Rugby Club. There were just a few small lights (madness compared to what Paige has now!) and I think there were 5 of us including meeting the fantastic Emma Seymour and Julie Towers-the original Clubbercise crew!!! Paige was so welcoming, so easy to talk to and made me feel immediately at ease. It was also the night I learnt my all time favourite routine to the Whitney Houston track, “I wanna dance with somebody” and I knew I was hooked! I was buzzing, knackered and utterly unphased by the fact I was soooo red and sweaty - could not have cared less!

If you have attended an event with us, how was it, what was your favourite moment?

I have done a few of the special events and really they are just a bigger, longer and probably slightly more crazy version than a normal class. The Clubbathon was all my dreams come true-2 hours of pretty much solid dancing was the highlight of my year so far-45 mins is never enough and actually after 2 hours, I wasn’t really ready to go home!! Cannot wait for the next one!!
I also did a back to fitness weekend event which pushed me way out of my comfort zone and made me do exercise I have never done or believed I could do, who knew I could do a burpee, let alone a whole minute of burpees!! Admittedly, not very good ones but nevertheless, I tried and didn’t give up!! This was a great way to trying lots of different classes I would never have normally tried. It was also lovely to meet with some of the girls that do the other classes so see their names on the Facebook group and hear stories about their antics but have actually never met them so that was great! It was especially fun at Boogie Bounce the following night and seeing all the girls who had done the Back to Fitness event, wincing with every squat!! United in muscle aches!!!!

What has made you continue your journey with us?

Paige and the other girls! Honestly, I have never felt in a more secure and less judgemental environment in my life. I turn up wearing bright Neon leggings and a vest (a vest!!! with my arms out-who am I???) that I would previously have run a mile from, let alone have a wish list of the next leggings I want!!!! Paige has the ability to sense when you have more to give and encourage you to kick a little higher, punch a bit harder or squeeze in that song because you can keep going. I love that we all have the same energy and seem to push each other to make the classes louder, bigger and more energetic every week-there is a genuine positive vibe that runs through everyone and it’s just addictive.
Paige is also super supportive and genuinely cares - she’s not just our instructor but a very dear friend too!

Important question... what is your favourite class?

Clubbercise without doubt! The music and the routines are just brilliant, oh and the glow sticks!! When else do you get to dance around with glow sticks at 37 years old-even my boys know they are mummies for when she goes dancing!!
But having said that, all the classes are amazing - I wish I could do more but have to choose my favourite of favourite classes otherwise I would never see my husband or boys!!

What advice would you give to someone who hasn't attended classes but is looking at joining us?

Do it now!!!! Book your first class, pick the one you feel most excited about and you’ll not regret it! No matter what shape or size you are, how fit or fat you are, or if you have any rhythm or coordination-it does not matter!!!! These classes are great for you mental and physical health so it’s a no brainer really!!! You go at the pace that suits you, there no judgement, just a load of slightly crazy, super friendly girls that love a mid-week rave!!!

Have you got any final advice or words of wisdom?

💕Turning up is enough; if you can get into class each week, you will see progress and improvement without trying.
🌈Embrace your inner neon raver and get the brightest most colourful (and UV) leggings and vest you can get your hands on!!
😜Always have a last minute wee-those split leaps can be a nightmare for the pelvic floor!!!
